ABS and Meyer Group’s digital start-up Alfred Maritime have teamed up to explore technical projects that support cruise operators, vessels, crews, and passengers.
Under a memorandum of understanding (MoU), the parties will work together in three key areas: fleet performance and health monitoring, maintenance optimisation, and safety and emergency systems.
The collaboration will bring together Alfred Maritime’s fleet performance expertise and ABS’s track record in classification and safety. By aligning digital insights with class‑based processes, the two parties aim to cut operational redundancies, streamline regulatory and maintenance work, and reinforce safety frameworks to support more reliable cruise operations.
In February, the class society opened the ABS Cruise Center of Excellence, its dedicated global hub for the cruise sector. Located in Fort Lauderdale, Florida, the centre provides cruise operators with direct access to classification, risk management, compliance, and performance software and engineering services.
Hamburg-based Alfred Maritime recently debuted what it describes as the first AI-based energy management system for cruise ships. Combined with “accurate” performance predictions and forecasts from multiple onboard systems, the Meyer Energy Management System (EMS) gives the crew insights to optimise energy efficiency and reduce fuel consumption.
