Anna Angelicoussis-led Alpha Gas has signed a multi-year charter agreement with India’s leading natural gas company, GAIL, for a modern LNG carrier
The vessel involved is 174,000-m³ Energy Fidelity, built in 2023. While both parties have confirmed the deal and described it as long-term, no official details on the duration have been disclosed.
However, European shipbrokers reported this week that the vessel has been fixed on a five-year charter at rates in the high US$70,000s per day. According to ICIS data, a two-stroke LNG carrier on a contract of this length would earn around US$78,000 per day, broadly aligning with broker estimates.
“This agreement reflects a strong partnership, shared vision, and our joint commitment to supporting global energy security. Energy Fidelity will strengthen GAIL’s LNG portfolio, and we are proud to contribute with our high-quality fleet and operational excellence,” Alpha Gas said in a social media post.
GAIL added that the charter “marks a key milestone under the ‘Maritime Amrit Kaal Vision 2047’, further strengthening India’s maritime infrastructure and energy supply chain capabilities.”
Energy Fidelity is equipped with a state-of-the-art two-stroke propulsion system, complemented by advanced air-lubrication technology and shaft generators, enhancing fuel efficiency and reducing emissions.
Alpha Gas currently manages a fleet of 14 gas carriers, including six vessels under construction. The fleet is composed entirely of LNG carriers, while the orderbook includes a mix of LNG carriers, very large ammonia carriers and very large gas carriers.
The company placed an order earlier this year at Hanwha Ocean for two LNG carriers.
Anna Angelicoussis co-managed the family fleet with her late brother, John Angelicoussis, until 2001, when she established her own group. Initially focused on bulk carriers, the business later expanded into tankers and LNG shipping. Today, her sons, Frangiskos and Antonis Kanellakis, co-run the company.
