OSV industry professionals will gather at the Annual Offshore Support Journal Conference, Awards and Exhibition on 4-5 February 2025 to celebrate the accomplishments of their peers
Anticipation will be in the air when offshore support vessel industry professionals from around the world gather at the Annual Offshore Support Journal Conference, Awards & Exhibition in London on 4-5 February 2025. Hundreds will be on hand to applaud and celebrate the accomplishments of their peers during an ‘Academy Awards-style’ gala dinner on the evening of 4 February, when Offshore Support Journal reveals the winners of the Annual OSJ Awards. These prestigious awards recognise leadership excellence in the areas of management, operations, finance, technology, design and services.
This year, awards will be presented in 11 categories, nine of which are chosen by industry voters from a shortlist of more than three dozen candidates. Companies will be honoured for their outstanding achievements in the categories of Environmental, Offshore Renewables, Safety, Dynamic Positioning, Innovation of the Year, Offshore Energy Vessel of the Year, ESG, Shipowner of the Year and the newly minted John Westwood Deal of the Year. Additionally, OSV industry thought leaders will be recognised with the Industry Leader of the Year Award and Lifetime Achievement Award selected by the OSJ team.
And, the good news is that there is still time to vote for your favourite shortlister. But you must hurry. Voting closes on 20 January 2025.
What follows is a brief explanation of each award, the names of those that have been shortlisted, and their accomplishments.
John Westwood Deal of the Year Award has been established to honour the memory and industry contribution of John Westwood.
John was synonymous with impeccable offshore intelligence – the bedrock of any industry deal. And so with that in mind, this award will recognise this year’s deal of the year.
The nominees and deals are:
Adani’s Acquisition of Astro Offshore: Adani Ports has acquired an 80% stake in Astro Offshore for US$185M, enhancing its fleet of offshore support vessels.
DOF’s Acquisition of Maersk Supply Service: DOF has purchased Maersk Supply Service for US$1.11Bn, adding 22 vessels to its fleet.
Cyan Renewables’ Purchase of MMA Offshore: Cyan Renewables has acquired MMA Offshore for US$702M, gaining 21 offshore vessels.
Capital Offshore’s PSV Order: Capital Offshore has ordered four PSVs from Fujian Mawei Shipbuilding, marking the largest PSV order in a decade.
Hercules Supply’s Newbuild Order: Hercules Supply has commissioned a new multipurpose support vessel using existing shipyard components.
ECO’s Acquisition of ROVOP: Edison Chouest Offshore has acquired ROVOP to enhance its subsea services and ROV capabilities.
Mag Offshore’s acquisition of 20 Atlantic Navigation OSVs: Atlantic Navigation’s sale of its 20-vessel OSV fleet to MAG Offshore Investments for US$183M stands out as one of the most significant OSV sector transactions of 2024.
Awarded to a company, project or product that has made a significant contribution to a reduction in the environmental footprint of the OSV industry. Sponsored by DP & Marine Assurance Norway.
The nominees are:
ADNOC Logistics & Services’ ship-to-shore power initiative to reduce CO2 and GHG emissions
The ship-to-shore power initiative at ADNOC L&S’s key supply ports eliminates GHG emissions from vessel’s operating their diesel generators while docked. It also reduces fuel consumption and maintenance costs of the generators. This initiative is expected to reduce approximately 9,900 tonnes of CO2 emission annually.
Caterpillar: The IMO Tier III-compliant Cat C32
A popular choice for offshore vessels, these power-dense high-speed diesel engines can produce between 600 hp to 1,800 hp at 2,300 rpm. The engine is IMO Tier III compliant, with the addition of a selective catalytic reduction system.
Equinor: Long-term charters supporting ammonia as a marine fuel
Equinor has ambitions to halve its emissions from Norwegian maritime operations by 2030. The Norwegian energy major has been nominated for its tendering process and working with shipowners to develop the next generation of ammonia-fuelled platform supply vessels.
SEACOR Marine: Hybridising its fleet of platform supply vessels to improve fuel consumption and reduce emissions
SEACOR Marine continues to lead the path toward sustainability by hybridising its fleet of PSVs, further solidifying its commitment to reducing environmental impact and enhancing operational efficiency. In 2024, SEACOR revealed plans to retrofit four additional PSVs with battery-hybrid power systems by the end of 2025.

Awarded to a company, project or product that has made a significant contribution to the development of the offshore renewables market. Sponsored by Bureau Veritas.

MJR Power & Automation: Innovative offshore charging system
MJR Power & Automation’s offshore charging system, operational for the first time at the Nobelwind windfarm, enables vessels to use green, locally generated energy directly. The technology allows ships to connect to the charging cable, enabling them to stay in place while charging, despite sea currents.
RWE/SolarDuck: Pioneering demonstration of floating solar windfarms
Merganser, a floating solar pilot project installed in the Dutch sector of the North Sea, aims to demonstrate the structural, mooring and electrical requirements for floating offshore solar farms, and enhance understanding of the requirements for manufacturing, assembly, installation and maintenance of commercial projects.
Seaonics: Seaonics Ocean Charger
Seaonics Ocean Charger is a safe and efficient means of charging vessels offshore, with a proven concept for connecting, charging and handling an 11 kV high-capacity charging cable from any offshore structure to a vessel. Connecting vessels to the offshore windfarm’s power grid for regular battery charging eliminates the need for additional energy sources.
GMV: Winlet ErgoMover Go Wireless trolley
Winlet ErgoMover Go Wireless trolley can be used to transport equipment across gangways from SOVs to wind turbines (supplied by Hird Sales). The battery-electric Winlet trolleys, which are operated via a hand-held remote-control unit, are used to move essential maintenance equipment and materials between supply ships and the offshore wind turbines.
Awarded to a company, person, project or product that has either set industry safety benchmarks or been the difference in terms of safety of life, property and environment in an OSV operation or incident over the last 12 months. Sponsored by Vroon Offshore Services.

IMCA: Workshop series promotes walk-to-work safety
International Marine Contractors Association (IMCA) held a series of workshops dedicated to improving standards, safety and best practices in walk-to-work operations.
Guidance Marine: Targetless sensor SceneScan reduces human error and equipment interference
Guidance Marine’s SceneScan is the first and only targetless sensor that operates seamlessly across various offshore structures, including platforms, windfarm monopoles, and vessels like FPSOs, LNG carriers, and OSVs. By eliminating the need for physical targets, SceneScan significantly reduces the potential for human error and equipment interference, enhancing operational safety in complex environments.
Zelim: ZOE Intelligent Detection
ZOE Intelligent Detection, a man-overboard locating solution that was developed by ZELIM founder Sam Mayall. The system delivers real-time intelligent person-in-water and object detection, alerting and tracking to enhance both search and sea surface monitoring operations.
Flyability: Elios 3 UT
Flyability revolutionises vessel inspection using drone technology. Using its new drone Elios 3 UT, Flyability can conduct close-up, systematic vessel visual inspections, using the power of a computer and LiDAR mapping. The UT payload developed in collaboration with Cygnus Instruments allows the drone to perform accurate thickness measurements on vessels and equipment.
The dynamic positioning (DP) award recognises the developer of an innovative DP product or system, or contractor responsible for an especially innovative application of DP. Sponsored by Damen.

Speedcast: Using Sigma to seamlessly manage multiple connectivity paths
Speedcast’s Sigma solution is an intelligent platform integrating multiple connectivity paths into a single, secure service, monitoring and selecting the right connectivity option to maintain application performance and delivering the highest availability.
