Artificial intelligence boost for large tanker operators

Operators of large tankers such as AET, Euronav, Frontline, Maersk Tankers and Polembros Shipping are listed as users of an artificial intelligence platform that takes tanker positions, emails and broker inputs to produce complex voyage scenarios, tonnage lists and TCE calculations.

While not a unique product, Signal Ocean is the latest addition to a raft of products and techniques revolutionising backroom tanker and tanker pool operations.

The product extracts fixture, position and cargo data from emails, which is traditionally done manually, to determine the “latest and greatest” state of each vessel.

This data is mixed in the data engine with “geospatial data”, which is presumably one or more AIS data feeds.

The outputs are tonnage lists, fixtures, TCE estimations, port costs and distance tools available on dashboards on PCs and mobile phone apps.

The tool is currently being offered under an early adopter deal for US$750 per month.

Signal Ocean was developed by Greek tanker operator Thenamaris Ships Management, which is controlled by the Martinos family.
