Boluda Towage has expanded its position in east Asian operations through a strategic investment in Hongkong Salvage and Towage Services (HKSTS)
The Valencia, Spain-headquartered tug owner is joining the new venture which was formed as a member of CK Hutchison Holdings.
HKSTS provides salvage, towage and marine project management services in Hong Kong and nearby waters. It will operate 13 tugs with combined onboard power of 43,100 kW, providing harbour, coastal and offshore towage and salvage, ship handling and oil spill response.
HKSTS will also take roles as designer, owner, operator and consultant of marine transport management projects. It manages and operates vessels maritime waste transport for the Hong Kong government and will be the exclusive service provider and operator of the two dual-fuel standby vessels for Hong Kong LNG Terminal when they are built.
“Our entry into the Hongkong Salvage and Towage Services partnership has been a unique and formidable opportunity to strengthen Boluda Towage in the Asian continent and especially in one of its main ports,” said Boluda Corporación Marítima chairman Vicente Boluda Fos.
Hutchison Ports group managing director Eric Ip said including Boluda Towage will bring experience in tugboat services “to boost our salvage and towage capabilities and create a strong alliance that will benefit our customers in terms of integrated service offerings.”
In what could be seen as an indication for the future, Mr Ip said Hutchison Ports would “look forward to working with our partner throughout our network of ports.”
The collaboration signifies both companies will join forces to develop business opportunities with innovative solutions, supported by Boluda’s fleet of more than 700 vessels and Hutchison Ports’ network of 54 ports in 25 countries.
