China’s New Times Shipbuilding is ramping up production on Greek tanker newbuildings, hosting naming and delivery ceremonies since the beginning of this month
On 10 March, George Prokopiou-led Dynacom Tankers received 113,500-dwt Aframax tanker Samothraki, marking a key delivery. New Times noted Dynacom has ordered two vessels of this type from the shipyard.
In early February, Riviera reported Dynacom has an extensive newbuilding programme for 50 tankers, with a focus on larger sizes. Of these 50 vessels, 16 are Aframax/LR2 tankers, 14 are Suezmaxes, 12 are Panamax/LR1 tankers and eight are VLCCs. Notably, 46 ships are under construction in China, while four Suezmaxes are being built in South Korea.
In addition to its newbuildings, Dynacom has been active in the sale and purchase (S&P) market, with reports linking it to the acquisition of two Suezmax tankers. One of these, built in 2009, has already been delivered to Dynacom’s fleet. According to Equasis, the Greek owner’s current fleet consists of 66 operational tankers.
Polembros Shipping’s newbuilds
Polembros Shipping, another prominent Greek owner, is also receiving tanker newbuildings from New Times Shipbuilding. In the first week of March, the company took delivery of 157,000-dwt Fearless Warrior, the first of a trio of Suezmax tankers ordered from the shipyard in mid-2023.
The second vessel, Stoic Warrior, is expected to be delivered in the first half of this year, and the third, Bold Warrior, is set for delivery in September, according to Equasis data.
New Times Shipbuilding highlighted its use of advanced energy-saving and emissions-reduction technologies on the Polembros tankers, which are conventionally fuelled but optimised for better energy performance.
Polembros is currently listed with 14 tankers and 13 bulk carriers, including vessels under construction, as per the company’s website. Notably, the Greek shipowner executed a rare S&P deal last October in the dry bulk market for a 12-year-old post-Panamax.
