Hong Kong-based CM Energy has unveiled its Meridian-class commissioning service operation vessel (CSOV), an affordable design aimed at the global offshore wind industry
Designed to North Sea standards and optimised for what CM Energy described as “operational performance and commercial efficiency,” the Meridian-class is the Chinese company’s vision of a cost-effective, sustainable, and accessible approach to offshore wind operations and maintenance support.
“The Meridian-class was developed to address growing demand for high-performance offshore support vessels capable of supporting windfarm commissioning, operations, maintenance, and major component exchange campaigns,” said the company.
“Combining advanced vessel design with a focus on lifecycle cost reduction, the platform has been engineered to provide developers, owners, and operators with a highly competitive alternative in the global CSOV market.
“A key differentiator of the Meridian Class is its emphasis on affordability without compromising safety, capability, or crew welfare. The design incorporates modern offshore accommodation standards, efficient logistics solutions, and a mission-focused layout intended to maximise operational uptime while minimising project costs.”
Recognising the offshore wind industry’s increasing focus on decarbonisation, the Meridian-class will be available with a range of low-carbon propulsion solutions, including alternative fuel configurations and a fully electric option. These solutions provide vessel owners and charterers with greater flexibility in meeting corporate sustainability targets and future environmental regulations.
CM Energy is offering flexible financing packages and commercial arrangements designed to facilitate vessel acquisition and deployment in multiple offshore wind markets, an approach the company said is intended to reduce barriers to entry while accelerating fleet growth in support of the global energy transition.
CM Energy director and vice president Shi Wei said the Meridian Class has a clear objective, “to provide the offshore wind sector with a safe, efficient, commercially attractive, and future-ready CSOV solution.
“By combining proven offshore principles with innovative design and flexible commercial models, we believe the Meridian-class will set a new benchmark for value and performance within the offshore wind support vessel market.”
CM-Energy is part of the larger China Merchants group, which has significant internal resources including vessel design, equipment provision and vessel build capabilities. There are multiple major yards within the group, including China Merchants Heavy Industry.
The company is already well established globally through various brands, most notably TSC, which has supplied the oil and gas markets for decades.
