Oslo, Norway-listed owners Prosafe and Floatel International have both announced new orders and exercised options, demonstrating growing demand for accommodation semi-submersibles
As energy companies increase investment in oil and gas field developments and long-term maintenance programmes, they will increasingly need high-capacity accommodation semi-submersible units with high-class dynamic positioning (DP) capabilities.
Prosafe gained a letter of award, subject to final contract, to provide accommodation and construction support using 2005-built Safe Concordia in the US Gulf of Mexico.
This 2015-upgraded, DP2 accommodation unit will work on a deepwater project for an unnamed energy company for one year commencing Q2/Q3 2023. Prosafe estimated this contract to have a value of around US$33M.
In another deal, BP Exploration Operating Co has exercised the first of four-months of options for its contract for 2016-built Safe Zephyrus. This DP3, 450-bed accommodation semi-submersible will be chartered until 21 December 2022, supporting the tie-in of the Seagull project at the Eastern Trough Area Project central processing facility in the UK North Sea.
“The value of the one-month extension is approximately US$3.5M,” said Prosafe.
Stavanger-headquartered Floatel International announced it secured contract extensions for two of its accommodation units operating in the Norwegian sector of the North Sea. Equinor Energy extended its contract for Floatel Endurance semi-submersible accommodation and construction support vessel. This 2015-built, 440-bed, DP3 unit will continue to provide services at the Johan Sverdrup field until 31 December 2022.
“Two additional monthly options have been added under the same amendment, which gives Equinor the possibility to extend the charter until end-February 2023,” said Floatel.
In a separate deal, Equinor Energy also extended the charter of 2010-built Floatel Superior to continue providing services at the Grane field. This 440-bed, DP3 unit is supporting platform work associated with the Breidablikk project at least until 15 November 2022 under the latest contract extension.
Earlier this week, Floatel announced it had secured a contract from Woodside Burrup for its 2016-built semi-submersible accommodation and construction support vessel Floatel Triumph. This DP, ABS-classed vessel will provide services at the Pluto offshore project for at least three months, starting 1 April 2023, with extension options to the contract.
