US-listed tanker company DHT has announced the acquisition of two 2016-built VLCCs, lifting its fleet to 29 vessels
The two VLCCs were built in 2016 at Daewoo for a total of US$136M to high specifications by their current owner and are fuel efficient, scrubber fitted eco-designs. The transaction will further improve the DHT fleet’s efficiencies, including its annual efficiency ratio and energy efficiency operational index metrics.
Although DHT did not name the pair of VLCCs at the centre of the transaction, or the seller, shipping data and analytics company VesselsValue has concluded they are Eco Future and Eco Queen.
VesselsValue reports the seller is Awilco Eco Tankers Holding AS of Norway. Awilco Shipping AS and Transportation Recovery Fund founded Awilco Eco Tankers Holding AS in 2013. It is 50/50 owned between the two founders. The sale leaves two VLCCs, Eco Leader and Eco Seas, remaining in the Awilco fleet.
The Awilco tankers are due to be delivered to DHT in H1 2021 and will increase the size of the DHT fleet to 29 VLCCs.
An older addition to the DHT fleet was DHT Bronco, which was the subject of a Tanker Shipping & Trade newbuilding description feature.
