DNV GL awarded an approval in principle (AiP) certificate to Hudong-Zhonghua Shipbuilding for its new gas-fuelled 25,000-TEU ultra large container vessel design at the Marintec China trade fair in Shanghai
DNV GL and Hudong-Zhonghua have co-operated previously. In 2019, the companies worked on the design of Hapag Lloyd vessel Sajir, the world’s first LNG conversion of a large container ship.
Earlier this year they agreed to focus on driving new developments in shipbuilding in the gas carrier segment, when they inked an agreement to develop the largest LNG carrier built to date. In addition, in 2015, Hudong-Zhonghua developed a B-type tank design and mock-up and obtained a GASA certification from DNV GL. DNV GL is also providing support on using the Type B tank in new container ship designs.
Regional manager of DNV GL – Maritime for Greater China, Norbert Kray said “We are very proud to co-operate with Hudong-Zhonghua on this project,” adding “Hudong-Zhonghua has been a leading player in pushing the ship design envelope forward, especially for large vessels ... We look forward to supporting Hudong-Zhonghua on this project and its successful realisation with ground-breaking new vessels.”
