Damen Shipyards has secured a contract to supply an azimuth stern drive (ASD) tug with an overall length of 28 m to Limassol, Cyprus-headquartered owner EDT Offshore
This vessel will be built in east Asia to Damen’s ASD 2813 design with 85 tonnes of bollard pull to operate in the ports of Limassol and Larnaca in Cyprus, and at offshore loading and unloading terminals in Israel, Egypt and Greece.
Additional equipment will be installed including a FiFi1 fire-fighting system for emergency response and a towing winch with one working drum and another for ship towing, adding operational flexibility during towing and anchor handling projects.
Two tugger winches, a stern roller, a full spare tow wire housed on a hydraulic reel below the main deck, a deck crane and aft towing pins will enhance the vessel’s towing capabilities.
Damen will alter the aft of this tug to add extra fuel tanks, providing this vessel with a longer range for extended missions and offshore operations and will increase the accommodation capacity to 10 crew.
EDT said this tug will “contribute to the efficiency and safety of harbour towage, offshore terminal operations and emergency response capabilities in the eastern Mediterranean.”
