Bourbon is commissioning an upgraded platform supply vessels to support drilling and production offshore Guyana under a long-term contract with a US energy major
ExxonMobil has secured the long-term services of a platform supply vessel (PSV) that has been modified to transport chemicals to offshore drilling rigs and production ships operating in Guyana.
Bourbon won the five-year contract from the US oil major to provide maritime services in Guyana, starting in Q1 2026, using 2012-built PSV Bourbon Calm.
This 89-m 4,290-dwt vessel will be commissioned early in 2026 ready to transport chemicals as the first PSV to operate in Guyana in compliance with the OSV Chemical Code.
Adjustments and upgrades have been made on Bourbon Calm to enable this, including modifications to the pumping systems, enhanced tank cleaning and strengthened operational procedures, all validated by maritime authorities and classification society DNV.
Bourbon said enabling chemical transport on a PSV in Guyana for the first time is competitive, sustainable and immediately operational for ExxonMobil, which is sequentially developing deepwater oil fields with floating production storage and offloading vessels in the nation.
Bourbon Calm will be one of the few offshore vessels in the world authorised to carry out this type of operation, said Bourbon.
“This new contract illustrates ExxonMobil Guyana’s confidence in Bourbon’s ability to offer safe, innovative and economically efficient maritime solutions that comply with the highest regulatory standards,” said Bourbon chief commercial officer Karim Mebarek.
“Thanks to its high-quality design and above-average liquid storage capacity, Bourbon Calm meets high technical and environmental standards while ensuring optimal operational safety.”
Bourbon Calm has eight tanks able to carry up to 925 m3 of liquids including drilling mud and water, brine, base oil, fuel oil and low-flash products such as methanol.

In Norway, Equinor Energy has exercised one-year options to charter two PSVs from Norwegian owner Havila Shipping for a further year, keeping them busy during 2026.
Equinor has chartered 2008-built Havila Foresight until January 2027 and has an option for one year thereafter, until January 2028.
Havila Shipping also gained a one-year contract extension for 2012-built Havila Charisma, keeping it in service until December 2026, with an option to extend out to December 2027.
