Damen has delivered a Shoalbuster vessel to Fairplay Towage Polska
Fairplay Towage has taken delivery of a multi-purpose tugboat from Damen Shipyards for its port and offshore operations in Poland. Damen built one of its Shoalbuster vessels for Fairplay Towage Polska and delivered it in Gdynia, Poland, 13 October.
Fairplay-37 was built to Damen’s Shoalbuster 2711 ICE design with a bollard pull of 47 tonnes and propulsion complying with IMO Tier III standards for low SOx, NOx and particulate emissions.
Fairplay expects this new ice-class tug will play an important role in the development of the emerging offshore wind energy sector in the Polish sector of the Baltic Sea.
Due to being ice classed, the multi-purpose tugboat can operate year-round in the Baltic. The vessel has an overall length of 27.1 m, a beam of 11.6 m and a working draught of 2.9 m.
“This vessel will be the first in our fleet of this power that is able to enter Baltic and North Sea ports with limited depths,” said Fairplay Towage Polska project manager Arkadiusz Ryz.
“I am convinced that this Shoalbuster, meeting IMO Tier III emission requirements, will open up new markets for us. It has the potential to play an important role in developing our presence in the emerging offshore wind industry in Poland.”
Fairplay-37 was built by Damen Shipyards Hardinxveld at the SAFE shipyard in Gdansk as the first Shoalbuster 2711 to operate in ice conditions.
This 370-gt vessel is propelled by twin Caterpillar 3512C engines, driving two propellers in nozzles.
Fairplay Towage Polska has built on the successful delivery of Fairplay-37 by ordering two more newbuildings from Damen.
These reverse stern drive tugs will be built to Damen’s RSD2513 design for delivery Q1 2023.
