The Restis family-controlled Golden Energy has reportedly returned to Daehan Shipbuilding for another tanker newbuilding, adding to the South Korean yard’s recent surge in orders
On 1 October, DH Shipbuilding disclosed a contract for the construction of a 157,000-dwt Suezmax tanker, valued at US$85M, with an undisclosed Oceania-based owner. Shipbroking and market sources have linked the deal to Golden Energy.
The vessel will feature eco-friendly technology in line with the latest IMO requirements and is scheduled for delivery in October 2027.
Golden Energy has now ordered four Suezmaxes at Daehan since 2023. The first two have already joined its fleet, with the third slated for delivery in late 2026. The group currently controls 12 tankers, including newbuildings, and also maintains a presence in the bulk carrier market.
Daehan’s Suezmax momentum
This marks the second single-Suezmax order in two days for Daehan, following a contract reportedly signed with Leon Patitsas-led Atlas Maritime.
The shipbuilder has been on a strong run in the Suezmax segment, securing 10 contracts in the past month, including eight within just 10 days.
A Daehan representative said the wave of orders reflects recognition from both long-term clients and new owners that Daehan is a leading shipyard in tanker construction. “Building on this achievement, we will further strengthen our position in the global market and firmly maintain our unrivaled No 1 status in the mid-size tanker segment,” the official added.
