Marios Gialozoglou-led IMS SA has further expanded its tanker portfolio with a sixth acquisition this year, while simultaneously exiting the dry bulk sector through the sale of its sole vessel
The Greek shipping company has been listed as the new owner of 2008-built, 150,393-dwt Suezmax tanker Spetsa, formerly known as Oceanus. Shipbrokers reported earlier in the year that the vessel changed hands for around US$38M.
According to the Equasis data platform, Spetsa is the sixth secondhand tanker to join the IMS fleet in 2025. The company has also acquired Aframaxes Bourda (built 2006) and Anemoni (built 2007), as well as MR tankers Jaxson and Bruno (both built 2008) and Agapi 1 (built 2015).
IMS has been an active participant in the secondhand tanker market in recent years, frequently engaging in opportunistic asset plays. Equasis data shows the company now overseeing a fleet of 30 tankers built between 2002 and 2015, with 23 of those acquisitions completed since 2023.
Bulker exit
Meanwhile, IMS Bulk SA, the group’s dry bulk division, has divested its only vessel, completing its exit from the segment.
Ben 1, a 2015-built Handysize bulker that joined the IMS fleet in 2023, has been renamed Unity Bulk and is now trading under new ownership. Recent shipbroking reports indicate the vessel was sold for around US$15M.
IMS SA and IMS Bulk SA share the same registered address. It remains unclear whether the latter intends to re-enter the dry bulk market through future acquisitions.
In contrast, Riviera earlier reported that another active Greek tanker buyer, Spring Marine Management, has just expanded its dry bulk holdings with the purchase of a post-Panamax vessel.
