Greek dry bulk specialist Meadway Bulkers, led by George Delaportas, has further expanded its fleet with the acquisition of a Japanese-built Ultramax vessel through a secondhand purchase
The company is now the owner of 2016-built, 64,507-dwt Good Carry, formerly known as DSI Drammen. The vessel has recently been added to Meadway Bulkers’ fleet list on its website.
DSI Drammen was previously owned by Diana Shipping, led by Semiramis Paliou. The US-listed company disclosed in late 2025 that it had signed a memorandum of agreement to sell the ship to an unaffiliated third party for approximately US$26.4M before commissions.
The sale process had some twists. Diana Shipping had initially agreed to sell the vessel to a different undisclosed buyer in September 2025 for US$26.9M, but the deal was later terminated after the buyer failed to complete the transaction.
With this addition, Meadway Bulkers’ fleet now stands at 22 vessels, including 16 existing units and six newbuilds. The majority of the fleet is Japanese-built. The current orderbook comprises four Ultramax and two Handysize bulk carriers, with deliveries scheduled through Q2 2027.
“We believe in the exquisite art of shipbuilding and as such, we pride ourselves on being a company that strives to continuously invest in newbuilding tonnage,” the company notes on its website.
Notably, in April 2021, it was announced that the Delaportas brothers would pursue separate paths in the shipping industry. The split followed the passing of their father, Dionysis Delaportas, founder of Meadway Shipping & Trading, who died in 2019.
George Delaportas took over Meadway Bulkers, while Costas Delaportas remained at the helm of Meadway Shipping & Trading, which has since rebranded as DryDel Shipping.
