Milestone bunkering of 2025-built dual-fuelled dry bulk carrier with green methanol performed at Ulsan Port
NYK-chartered Green Future became the first dual-fuel bulk carrier to be refuelled with methanol at Ulsan Port in South Korea. The milestone on 28 September was announced by Ulsan Port Authority (UPA).
Green methanol produced by OCI Global was supplied by ITOCHU Corp through storage at the OTK Terminal and transferred via ship-to-ship (STS) bunkering using the South Korea-flagged oil/chemical tanker vessel Golden Sunny Hana.
UPA President Jae-young Byeon said, “This bunkering operation is a milestone that demonstrates Ulsan Port’s capability to deliver commercial-scale green methanol bunkering.” He added, “Building on this achievement, we are committed to spearheading sustainable marine fuel bunkering as a trusted global hub.”
This achievement follows Ulsan Port’s world-first successful methanol bunkering demonstrations for container ships (PTS/STS) in 2023-2024.
Green Future is a methanol dual-fuel ultramax bulk carrier chartered by NYK Bulk & Projects Carriers from owner Kambara Kisen. It was delivered in May this year by Japan’s Tsuneishi Shipbuilding.
