Huisman has confirmed it is to supply the crane for Cadeler’s new F-class installation vessel
The Dutch company has been awarded a contract by COSCO Shipping (Qidong) Offshore Co Ltd, the yard building the vessel, for the design and construction of a leg-encircling crane.
The contract follows contracts awarded in 2021 for two identical 2,600-tonne leg-encircling cranes for Cadeler’s X-class vessels.
Using the crane, Cadeler will be able to install foundations and wind turbines. The F-class vessels are a unique design that can be converted from a foundation installation unit to a wind turbine generator installation vessel within a short time.
The scope of work for Huisman consists of the design, engineering and construction of the crane at its production facility in Zhangzhou, China. The cranes will be commissioned in 2025 at COSCO’s shipyard in Qidong, China, where the F-class vessel will be built.
The leg-encircling crane is fully electrically driven, resulting in high positioning accuracy, reduced maintenance and high reliability and is designed for reduced energy consumption. It will have an inhouse-developed slew bearing system, providing reliable and accurate positioning.
The design of the boom makes it stiff and lighter than a conventional design. The fact that the boom is of stiff construction will lead to reduced motion at the tip of the crane. A small tail swing allows for optimised utilisation of free deck space.
The Offshore Wind Journal Conference will be held 14 June 2022. Details and tickets can be found here
