Qatargas supplied a commissioning LNG cargo to India’s Dhamra receiving terminal on the vessel Milaha Ras Laffan earlier this month
Qatargas sold the LNG on a delivered ex-ship basis to TotalEnergies, who delivered it to Adani Total Pvt Ltd, Total’s joint venture with India’s Adani Group.
Qatargas chief executive Khalid bin Khalifa Al Thani said, “Delivery of this commissioning LNG cargo to India’s Dhamra terminal is an important milestone for our company and for Qatar’s LNG industry. We are committed to meeting the growing demand for cleaner energy in India and around the world. Our reliable and safe supply of LNG will help India meet its energy needs and contribute to its economic growth.”
Dhamra is India’s seventh and newest operational LNG terminal. Located in the state of Odisha, the 5-mta terminal is Adani Total’s first LNG import terminal and is expected to boost gas utilisation on the east coast of India.
Once fully commissioned, Adani and TotalEnergies will provide regasification services to downstream Indian customers.
India is planning on a significant expansion of its LNG usage as the Indian government aims to increase the share of natural gas use in the country’s total energy mix to 15%, from about 6% currently, by 2030.
The terminal features two tanks of 170,000-m3 capacity each. The facility’s jetty is capable of handling LNG carriers from 70,000-m3 to 265,000-m3 capacity and also offers breakbulk services, enabling LNG to be reloaded to smaller vessels for further distribution, and an LNG truck loading facility.
“We are pleased to have completed the first delivery of LNG to the new Dhamra LNG terminal with a cargo from Qatargas, our long-standing strategic partner," said Total senior vice president LNG, Thomas Maurisse.
