Jan De Nul has confirmed to OWJ that what it describes as a ‘minor incident’ occurred on its recently-built heavy lift installation vessel Les Alizés
A spokesperson for Jan De Nul said, “We can confirm that there was a minor incident on board our heavy-lift vessel Les Alizés on Friday afternoon, 24 January 2025 whilst alongside the quay in the port of Eemshaven.
“Back-up batteries for the UPS related to the dynamic positioning system on board started smoking. By 16.30, approximately one hour after smoke was discovered it was cleared, and the batteries were transferred in a controlled manner to the quay.
“All crew remained safe and unharmed and damage was contained to the battery cabinet. We are thankful to our crew members and the local fire brigade for their professional and prompt action.”
Les Alizés is designed to load, transport, lift and install foundations for offshore wind turbines. The vessel was delivered in January 2023.
