Dry bulk carrier owners are opting for methanol power and K-Line has invested in the Corona series of coal carriers
Lemissoler Navigation receives approval for methanol-fuelled dry bulk carrier
Lemissoler Navigation has obtained an approval in principle (AIP) from ABS for its 65,000-dwt design of a methanol-powered Ultramax bulk carrier. This marks a significant milestone for China’s shipbuilding industry, as it represents the first-ever methanol vessel of its kind. Developed in collaboration with SDARI, the Lem65ePlus-SDARI Methanol design explores the potential of methanol as a sustainable fuel to meet IMO’s net-zero target by 2050. The vessel’s innovative design has exceeded the Energy Efficiency Design Index (EEDI) Phase 3 standards. ABS conducted extensive design reviews to ensure compliance with class and statutory requirements.
K Line’s Corona-series coal carriers
Kawasaki Kisen Kaisha and Nihon Shipyard have entered into a contract for the construction of three post-Panamax 92,000-dwt dry bulk carriers.
These bulkers will be wide-beam, shallow-draft coal carriers optimally designed for transportating coal to coal-fired power plants in Japan and are known as the Corona series.
