Maersk has corrected reports of a full return to the Suez Canal and the Houthi-hit Red Sea shipping routes, saying the line will "take steps to resume navigation" there
A Maersk representative contacted media to say that "reports that Maersk would fully resume services through Suez Canal starting December," are "misinformation" following a press conference with the Suez Canal Authority (SCA) attended by Maersk chief executive Vincent Clerc.
Maersk said that it is not issuing a timeline yet for the return to the Red Sea.
A joint statement said, “Given the significant progress on both fronts, Maersk will take steps to resume navigation along the East-West corridor via the Suez Canal and the Red Sea and over time, normalise the transits on this route. This will proceed as soon as conditions allow, with safety of our crew as the top priority."
AP Moller-Maersk (Maersk) and the Suez Canal Authority (SCA) have extended their strategic partnership agreement, building upon their long history of successful collaboration covering port terminals, logistics and shipping, and supporting Egypt’s position in global trade.
At the 25 November meeting announcing the extension of their strategic partnership agreement, SCA and Maersk discussed the geopolitical situation in the region, including the continued progress of the peace process in Gaza and re-establishment of freedom of navigation in the Bab el Mandeb.
