Singapore-listed Nam Cheong has completed the milestone conversion of a DP2-class platform supply vessel for methanol transport
Nam Cheong Group’s SKOM has completed the conversion of the DP2-class platform supply vessel (PSV) SK Perfect for methanol transport.
The retrofit and successful first loading of SK Perfect was reported by Nam Cheong in a social media post.
For the conversion, the PSV was equipped with two custom-designed tanks capable of transporting 223 tonnes of methanol. Additionally, full piping, discharge system and tank calibration modifications were undertaken in full compliance with statutory and class requirements. The entire retrofit process was completed in three months, in collaboration with a shipyard in Labuan. Dry runs on SK Perfect were completed on 18 June, with final acceptance granted for methanol loading in Petronas Methanol Labuan Terminal on 22 June.
“Today, SK Perfect stands as one of the only three Malaysian-registered PSVs approved for methanol loading in Petronas Methanol Labuan Terminal — a proud testament to our team’s excellence in undertaking and completing major retrofitting projects”, said the owner.
Based in Sarawak Malaysia, Nam Cheong is a Singapore-listed global offshore marine group specialising in building and chartering OSVs. It said, “SK Perfect serves a critical 3 + 3-year long-term charter with an oil major, supporting its energy operations with enhanced, future-ready capabilities.”
SKOM’s 3,000-dwt PSV SK Paragon was converted in 2020, while 4,000-dwt SK Plenty was converted in 2023. Both are approved for methanol loading at Petronas Methanol Labuan Terminal.
