Offshore vessel owner and builder Marco Polo Marine and US-based Amogy have entered into a memorandum of understanding that will see Amogy’s proprietary ammonia-to-power system installed on vessels owned by Marco Polo Marine, enabling them to operate with zero emissions
Amogy chief executive Seonghoon Woo said, “We are delighted to work with a respected and innovative maritime operator that shares our bold vision for a greener and more sustainable future.”
Marco Polo Marine chief executive Sean Lee said, “We welcome the opportunity to collaborate with Amogy and combine our environmentally friendly and innovative technologies.
“We think that Amogy’s ability to convert ammonia to gaseous hydrogen in our offshore wind vessels is a step in the right direction that brings us closer to our long-term goal of decarbonising the maritime industry by reducing greenhouse gas emissions.”
Marco Polo Marine has commissioned the development of a commissioning service operation vessel (CSOV) that will be built at its Batam shipyard. The shipowner is exploring ways to design and operate vessels for the offshore wind industry, such as CSOVs, that can operate with much reduced emissions.
The MoU comes after Amogy’s recent US$139M B-1 raise, which will enable the company to continue development, support commercialisation and begin manufacturing its ammonia-to-power technology, and bring its first product to market in 2024.
The agreement with Marco Polo Marine comes after Amogy announced it is building a zero-emissions ammonia-powered vessel with the intention of it entering operation in late 2023.
