German shipbuilder Meyer Werft has begun constructing Arvia, an LNG-powered cruise ship for British cruise line P&O Cruises
The shipyard hosted a steel-cutting ceremony for the cruise ship in February 2021.
Arvia is the sister ship of Meyer Werft-built Iona, one of the world’s first LNG-fuelled cruise vessels. At 344 m by 42 m, 180,000-gt Arvia will also run entirely on low-emissions LNG fuel and sport similar features such as the 970 m2 SkyDome glass dome.
SkyDome is a pool environment by day with dining and entertainment by night, when it will feature specially commissioned aerial acrobatics shows. Other luxury features include an onboard gin distillery and the Oasis spa featuring a range of destination-themed treatments.
Meyer Werft executive board member project management ships Stephan Schmees said, “Meyer Werft and P&O Cruises have a long-standing partnership. We are pleased to start the construction of Arvia.”
Arvia is set to be delivered by 2022 and will be the fourth cruise ship built by Meyer Werft for P&O Cruises.
