The island state of Barbados in the Caribbean is to examine options for the adoption of renewable energy, including bottom-fixed and floating offshore wind.
The Government of Barbados has received financial support from the Inter-American Development Bank and European Union for a ‘smart energy’ programme and intends to undertake technical and environmental studies, and capacity-building activity, to investigate the potential construction of a large-scale ocean energy power plant.
The ocean energy plant could take the form of ocean thermal energy conversion, fixed offshore wind or floating offshore wind.
The government of the Caribbean state issued documentation for an expression of interest and invited eligible consulting firms to indicate their interest in providing services and demonstrating that they have the required qualifications and relevant experience. It is expected to appoint a company to undertake the work.
