Caspian Offshore Construction (COC) has expanded its port and offshore support operations into the Middle East with the addition of a new workboat from Damen Shipyards
COC has taken delivery of Shoalbuster Caspian Amwaj to extend its offshore marine services, including towing and anchor handling, from its core market in Kazakhstan to the Middle East Gulf.
This vessel was built at Albwardy Damen in the United Arab Emirates, initially for Damen’s own stock, and sold to COC in October 2021.
Caspian Amwaj was completed and deployed on COC’s first project in the Middle East in November 2021. This versatile workboat is capable of a wide variety of assignments, including handling anchors, buoys and hoses, as well as towing, dredging and other general support tasks for the offshore oil and gas industry.
COC managing director Timur Sharapiev welcomed Caspian Amwaj to the Middle East market. “We have taken delivery of this unique unit from our established partner Damen Shipyard… as COC is moving into the Middle East market on the back of our strong track record of operating in Caspian waters.”
Caspian Amwaj was built to a Shoalbuster 3815 SD design, which is one of the latest to be added to Damen’s Shoalbuster range. It has a shallow draught to operate in waters no more than 120 cm in depth, which few other vessels can access.
Installed power of 1,150 kW comes from four 100-cm diameter aft propellers which deliver a bollard pull of 18.6 tonnes. Two bow thrusters add manoeuvrability on this 250-dwt vessel. With accommodation for 11 people, Caspian Amwaj has a working deck space of 185 m2 for transporting cargo.
Damen Shipyards sales manager for east and south-east Europe Marc Tijssen said this “ultra-shallow draught Shoalbuster 3815 SD was developed in close consultation with owners and operators of vessels operating in shallow waters.”
He added Caspian Amwaj was “ideal for work in the shallow waters of the Middle East Gulf and the Caspian Sea.”
COC is based in Kazakhstan and is a leading provider of offshore marine services in the Caspian Sea. It operates a fleet of vessels supplied by Damen Shipyards, including two fast crew suppliers, a Multi Cat 1908, a Stan Tug 1606 Ice and a fast crew boat.
