COSCO Shipping Bulk Cargo Transportation Co has taken delivery of the latest vessels for its African aluminium ore mining and export project
Jiangsu Zhenjiang Shipyards in China completed three vessels, including an azimuth stern drive (ASD) tugboat, 75-m supply and repair vessel and a 112-m ore transfer ship for the bauxite mining project in Guinea.
These were handed to COSCO on 4 January following construction, commissioning and sea trials, and set sail from China to Guinea.
“It marks the completion of the construction of all ships in the third batch of the project and a successful conclusion, achieving a good start in the New Year’s production,” said Jiangsu Zhenjiang Shipyards.
The ASD tugboat has total installed power of 3,088 kW, an overall length of 37 m, a beam of 10 m, a depth of 4.5 m, a top speed of 13 knots, a forward bollard pull of 52 tonnes and a backward towing force is 47 tonnes.
At the end of December 2023, the shipyard group delivered two other tugboats.
Zhenjiang Shipyards in Jiangsu province handed to Quanzhou Port 38-m ASD tugboat Xin Gand Tuo 10 on 23 December. It has installed power of 2,942 kW, a beam of 10 m, a depth of 5 m, a bollard pull ahead of 51 tonnes, astern of 46 tonnes, and a speed of 13 knots.
Ningbo Oil Handling & Tug (Barge) Co took delivery of ASD tugboat Yonggang Tuo 80, with hybrid propulsion featuring an energy storage system, on 20 December. It has a parallel diesel-electric hybrid propulsion with total power of 3,680 kW coming from batteries and electric motors supported by a main engine and an energy management system.
On 29 December, Jiangsu Zhenjiang Shipyards launched an ASD tugboat by crane lift with 3,824 kW of power for an unnamed domestic shipowner.
This was followed on 30 December by keel laying for China’s largest special pilot ship, which will have 6,000 dwt and operate in Shanghai Port by Shanghai Shenhui Ninghai Service Co when completed.
Jiangsu Zhenjiang Shipyards laid the keel on 3 January for the second 4,500-dwt cargo ship it is building for an unnamed South Korean owner to Korean Register class.
