Production of large-bore MAN B&W two-stroke engines is now well under way by CSSC-MES Diesel (CMD), the joint venture between the China State Shipbuilding Corporation, Shanghai-based Hudong Heavy Machinery and Mitsui Engineering & Shipbuilding of Japan.
A seven-cylinder MAN B&W K90MC-C engine headed deliveries from CMD’s new facility at Lingang, south of Shanghai, destined to power a 4,250 TEU container ship booked at Shanghai Shipyard for a German owner. Developing 32MW at 104 rpm, the engine is boosted by two ABB TPL85-B14 turbochargers.
CMD, with an initial annual capacity of 735,000kW, reportedly has the largest order backlog in China for low speed engines. MP
