A developer of digital AI-backed software for managing crew changes has raised €2M from Exmar and Motion Ventures to further expand its offerings
Belgian gas shipping group Exmar has joined investors in a developer of software for managing vessel crew changes after deploying this across its fleet and operations. Motion Ventures, a venture capital fund for digital transitions across global supply chains, has also invested in the German company to help it expand.
With these backers, Berlin-based Tilla secured €2.0M (US$2.3M) to expand into the Mediterranean and Asia-Pacific markets, grow its global team and continue building its crew logistics platform.
Tilla has developed software which uses artificial intelligence (AI) to manage crew changes on ships, replacing manual workflows with integrated, data-driven operations. It now covers 35,000 crew trips to more than 500 vessels for owners, operators and managers such as Peter Döhle Schiffahrts, Essberger, Stödig Shipmanagement, Wilson, Exmar and Seatrade.
“After integrating Tilla’s platform into our own operations, we were impressed by its impact and the team’s expertise,” said Exmar deputy chief operating officer Ariane Saverys as he explained the company’s investment. “Investing in Tilla reflects our confidence in its future and the value it brings to maritime crew logistics worldwide.”
Tilla’s AI-powered platform enables crewing teams to plan, monitor and continuously optimise operations.
It integrates all relevant data sources, including voyage schedules, crew details, port agency data, real-time seafarer flight information and travel requirements, while covering all steps of the crew change process, such as planning, automated flight management, invoice management and reporting.
Tilla estimates shipmanagers can reduce crew change costs by up to 24% and save up to 40% in time compared with using conventional methods.
Exmar operates a fleet of more than 40 gas carriers and floating gas terminals.
