An owner of shallow draught and deepsea LNG carriers has signed an agreement with an engine manufacturer to remotely monitor and analyse the performance of dual-fuel auxiliary engines
China LNG Shipping (International) Co (CLSICO) will benefit from data analytics on four of its LNG carriers to enhance their reliability, safety and efficiency.
It has signed an agreement with a major original engine manufacturer to remotely monitor the performance of dual-fuel engines on these ships to reduce maintenance costs and resolve potential issues.
CLSICO aims to achieve more cost efficiency and operational reliability for its auxiliary engines.
Data from sensors on these engines will be analysed to optimise maintenance, identify performance issues and predict potential problems before they occur.
“With the LNG ship transportation industry chain entering a period of rapid development, we are committed to operating our LNG ships safely, reliably and efficiently,” said CLSICO general manager Andrew Johnston.
CLSICO has signed a 15-year lifecycle agreement, starting in August 2025, with Wärtsilä, covering three LNG carriers to ensure operational reliability, enable flexibility in maintenance scheduling and increase time between auxiliary engine overhauls.
Wärtsilä will provide its predictive maintenance and optimised scheduling platforms and full-time remote support for issue resolution and asset availability.
“Wärtsilä’s lifecycle agreements play an important role, ensuring we continue to optimise the operations and maintenance of our vessels more effectively,” said Mr Johnston.
This agreement covers CLSICO’s 300-m LNG carriers Al Tuwar, Al Mas’habiyyah and Fat’h Al Khair, each with a capacity of 174,000 m3.
All operate with two eight-cylinder and two six-cylinder Wärtsilä 34DF dual-fuel engines. This new agreement follows the successful Wärtsilä lifecycle agreement signed in 2023 with CLSICO covering Dapeng Princess, which is the world’s largest shallow-draught LNG carrier.
