Graphite Innovation and Technologies (GIT) is set to move into a 1,600 m2 carbon-neutral facility in Dartmouth, Nova Scotia, Canada later in 2023, allowing the company to create eco-friendly production technologies and expand further into European, Middle Eastern and Asian markets
The Government of Canada, through the Atlantic Canada Opportunities Agency, is contributing C$950,000 (US$700,000), which is repayable, to help GIT establish operations in the new facility.
The Parliamentary Secretary to the Minister of Seniors and Member of Parliament for Dartmouth – Cole Harbour, Darren Fisher, said, “Companies in Dartmouth Cole Harbour, like GIT, are developing groundbreaking clean technologies, and our government is here to support their efforts, every step of the way. We are committed to making strategic investments in Atlantic Canada’s cleantech sector to protect the environment, increase access to international markets, and lay the groundwork for future economic success.”
GIT was co-founded in 2017 by chief executive Mo AlGermozi and chief technical officer Dr Marciel Gaier. It has 22 staff and plans to hire another 15 people by 2023.
The ‘Made in Canada’ message has been key to its success and the founders feel Halifax is an ideal city to manufacture and ship its product to distribution centres around the world.
Mr AlGermozi, stated, “We are grateful for this investment and the federal government’s continuous efforts to making greener shipping possible. We are aligned on the need to decarbonise the shipping and marine sector, specifically in and around Canadian waters. This investment will go into our state-of-the-art carbon neutral production facility. We need to keep up with demand that is in part being driven by environmental restrictions and regulations going into place worldwide. We are putting Canada on the map as an environmentally friendly coatings provider.”
