GMT - ONLINEPanos Laskaridis-led Laskaridis Shipping has added a third MR product tanker to its expanding orderbook, while also taking delivery of its first new Kamsarmax bulk carrier
In a rare newbuilding update shared via social media, the prominent Greek owner revealed it now has three 50,000-dwt MR2 product/chemical tankers under construction at Zhoushan Changhong International Shipyard in China.
Riviera first reported last year that Laskaridis Shipping had acquired two MR2 vessels originally ordered by Pro Tanker Investment, a vehicle established by Zhoushan Changhong, in a resale deal. According to Equasis, these vessels have since been renamed Saronic Wind and Parian Trader.
Shipbroking sources indicated a third sister vessel to these two has likely been acquired by Laskaridis Shipping shortly after the initial transaction.
First newbuilding delivered
Meanwhile, the Greek owner has taken delivery of 82,500-dwt Kamsarmax bulk carrier Pafsanias from Cosco Shipping Heavy Industry (Yangzhou).
The vessel forms part of an eight-ship Kamsarmax newbuilding programme being carried out across Chinese shipyards. Three vessels, including Pafsanias, are under construction at Cosco Yangzhou; four more are being built at CMI Qingdao Shipyard, and one at Jiangsu New Hantong Ship Heavy Industry.
“Pafsanias is the first vessel of our latest newbuilding programme to be delivered, representing not only fleet renewal but, more importantly, our commitment to a greener, smarter and more efficient future for global shipping,” Laskaridis Shipping said in a statement.
The company added that the vessel was designed for high performance, improved efficiency and a reduced environmental footprint.
Together with its sister company Lavinia Corp, Laskaridis Shipping manages one of the largest Greek-owned fleets, encompassing bulk carriers, tankers and refrigerated cargo ships.
