A leading owner in dry bulk shipping has invested in software to manage a fleet of 100 ships
Lauritzen Bulkers has reinvested in a suite of fleet management solutions from Weathernews covering voyage optimisation, ship performance and carbon intensity monitoring.
This three-year deal will see software deployed on 100 bulk carriers to communicate with the onboard Integrated Maritime Operations System (IMOS).
From July 2024, Lauritzen has used Total Fleet Management Solutions to reduce fuel and operating costs, improve navigational safety and save emissions.
This suite of programs includes OSR-e for optimum ship routeing, PMS-e for performance monitoring, CIM for carbon-intensity monitoring and FSM to monitor the fleet status.
Lauritzen Bulkers head of global operations Mette Stenild Grøn sees this agreement with Weathernews as a partnership and collaboration.
“Our continued collaboration will be crucial in supporting our strategic goals, including sustainable solutions, and ensuring we maintain our leadership position in the industry.”
Weathernews and Lauritzen Bulkers are exploring further developments, including integration with Marcura’s PortLog programs and enhancements to IMOS.
“These initiatives aim to optimise fleet performance and support Lauritzen Bulkers’ strategic goals in an increasingly complex maritime industry,” said Weathernews.
“With a focus on sustainability and leveraging technology, Lauritzen Bulkers is undergoing a strategic transition from a traditional shipowner and operator to a company emphasising active portfolio management and data-driven decision-making.”
Lauritzen Bulkers’ strategic investment in software underscores the growing focus on digital tools to enhance fleet efficiency and reduce emissions. Understanding how these innovations impact the broader bulk shipping sector is crucial for long-term operational success.
