MSC Seascape completes sea trials

MSC Seascape has successfully completed the first test of its onboard systems during a multiple-day trial between 17 to 20 August.

As the second in the Seaside EVO class, 169,400-gt MSC Seascape will be the longest cruise vessel in MSC Cruises’ fleet. Like sister ship MSC Seashore, 65% of the spaces on MSC Seascape have been redesigned with passenger experience and choice in mind: 2,270 cabins of 12 different types and suites with balconies, including aft suites, 11 dining experiences and 19 bars and lounges with outdoor food and beverage options.

The ship’s systems include selective catalytic reduction systems on each of the four Wartsila 14V 46F engines to reduce nitrogen oxide emissions by up to 90% by converting the gas into nitrogen and water. And MSC Seascape’s hybrid exhaust gas cleaning system will remove 98% of sulphur oxide from its emissions.

The vessel is equipped with wastewater treatment systems, waste management systems, ballast water treatment systems approved by the United States Coast Guard, systems for the prevention of oil discharges from machinery spaces, and various effective energy-efficiency improvements – from heat recovery systems to LED lighting to save energy.

The ship will also feature an underwater radiated noise management system to reduce and isolate the potential effects on marine mammals.
