Nissen Kaiun vessels obtained the highest Digital Smart Ship (DSS) notation from ClassNK following long-term use of Napa’s optimisation and monitoring solutions
Its tankers, bulk carriers, container ships and gas carriers using Napa’s performance monitoring and optimisation software received ClassNK’s DSS (EE2), indicating the highest level of ship performance.
Nissen Kaiun has been using Napa Performance Monitoring and Optimisation on its ships for several years for voyage planning to improve safety and reduce fuel consumption. It has provided feedback to Napa for further improvement.
“Having utilised Napa’s optimisation tools for several years, we have confirmed their effectiveness to achieve fuel savings and on-time operations of our fleet, which is a strategic priority as the industry progresses towards sustainability,” said a Nissen Kaiun spokesperson.
“ClassNK has made the third-party endorsement on its functions and issued the highest ship performance evaluation, DSS(EE2) to our ships equipped with Napa.”
The spokesperson said Nissen Kaiun would continue to work with ClassNK and Napa “to further develop the solution, to achieve optimal operations, so we can contribute to even greater reductions in CO2 emissions.”
In addition, ClassNK has issued Napa Fleet Intelligence and Napa Performance Monitoring and Optimisation with its Innovation Endorsement certification which recognises and supports innovations that further environmental and safety goals in line with the United Nations’ sustainable development goals.
Napa Fleet Intelligence is a cloud-based solution combining online data on ships and weather information with Napa’s 3D model database. This accurately assesses and optimises vessel performance and provides advice to masters and managers to optimise ship operations.
Napa Performance Monitoring and Optimisation applies the same data to analyse vessel performance and optimise routeing. It factors in data from shipboard hardware on vessel operations for a more accurate picture of vessel performance.
“Our voyage optimisation solution has been thoroughly evaluated at a high level,” said Napa executive vice president for shipping solutions Pekka Pakkanen.
“At a time when saving fuel is a strategic priority for fleets around the world, owners and operators need to have confidence in the tools they use to plan and assess their voyages.”
Mr Pakkanen said approval from ClassNK “is a significant milestone that opens the door to further deployment on fleets worldwide.”
ClassNK corporate officer and director of the plan approval and technical solution division Masaki Matsunaga said the concept of Innovation Endorsement was “to carry out swift certification while developing necessary criteria in partnership with technological front runners.”
