Developer Ocean Winds, the 50-50 joint venture between EDP Renewables and Engie, has teamed up with electricity company Eletrobras to address the Brazilian offshore wind market
The companies recently signed a memorandum of understanding affirming their ‘strong commitment’ to advancing offshore wind projects in Brazil, aligning themselves with the country’s renewable energy and economic development goals.
The agreement was signed by Eletrobras vice president of strategy Elio Wolff and Ocean Winds chief business development officer Rafael Munilla Muñoz.
In a statement, the companies said the alliance ‘combines Ocean Winds’ extensive experience in offshore wind projects Eletrobras’ expertise as the largest company in the electricity market in Latin America. Electrobras is a generator and transmission system operator.
Ocean Winds has a project portfolio of 18.5 GW across eight countries and has registered 15 GW of potential projects with IBAMA, in the states of Rio de Janeiro, Piauí, Rio Grande do Norte and Rio Grande do Sul.
