The leading owner of tugboats in the Middle East, Mediterranean and Africa regions has added another newbuild tugboat built in Turkey to its fleet
P&O Maritime Logistics has taken delivery of another newbuild tugboat as it expands its harbour towage capabilities across continents.
The DP World subsidiary welcomed 32-m P&O Africa after its construction by Med Marine as yard number ER 135 at the Eregli Shipyard in northern Turkey as part of the MED-A3200 series.
This escort tug was built to Robert Allan Ltd’s RAstar 3200-W design with a beam of 10 m, a draught of 6 m, and accommodation for 10 crew. Its twin diesel main engines drive two azimuth thrusters on the stern to deliver a bollard pull of 80 tonnes and a top speed of around 13 knots.
P&O Africa was built for escorting, handling, towing and mooring ships and emergency response.
It is equipped with an advanced FiFi1-class fire-fighting system, gas detection sensors and emergency shutdown protocols, “ensuring swift and efficient action in the face of potential threats,” said Med Marine. It also has an escort winch on the fore deck, and a winch and towing hook on the aft deck.
Headquartered in Dubai, United Arab Emirates, P&O Maritime Logistics is a provider of marine solutions with a focus on port services, offshore energy and cargo transport, with an operated fleet of around 400 vessels.
