PT Badak LNG, operator of the Bontang LNG export terminal in Indonesia’s East Kalimantan province, has been awarded a Level 8 certificate of compliance with DNV’s International Safety Rating System Edition 7, becoming the first oil and gas company in Asia to achieve this standard. Bontang is the world’s fourth largest LNG liquefaction facility.
Agus Haryanto, PT Badak’s president and CEO, states, “The ISRS7 Level 8 achievement demonstrates that not only do we have a world class operation and but also all our stakeholders are satisfied with our performance in relation to the safety, health, environment and quality (SHEQ) aspects of our business.”
PT Badak was one of the first companies to adopt the ISRS Edition 7 scheme when it started with the system in 2006. The package was judged to be a good integrated management control system that could replace the company’s previous piecemeal approach. Prior to 2006 the terminal’s process safety management system, the loss prevention programme, the environmental management system and the quality management function were all administered separately.
The ISRS7 performance measuring tool covers many international standards, including ISO 9001, ISO 14001, asset management and the GRI global reporting initiative. Launched in 2009, the ISRS7 Level 8 standard incorporates the latest acknowledged best practices in process safety management.
Bontang is on target to export 280 LNG cargoes in 2010, down marginally from the 303 shipments despatched in 2009.
