Small-scale LNG initiative in the Philippines

The Department of Energy (DOE) in the Philippines has granted approval for an LNG import terminal project, with an investment of US$67M.

Samat LNG Corp, having received a notice to proceed from the DOE, will construction this small-scale LNG terminal.

Situated in the Mariveles municipality of Bataan province, approximately 60 km north of Manila, this project holds immense potential for the region’s energy infrastructure development.

The vision set forth by Samat LNG is to commence commercial operation by H1 2024, providing an annual LNG capacity ranging from 200,000 to 400,000 tonnes.

This substantial supply capability is intended to cater to an array of stakeholders, including small-scale power producers, manufacturing entities and transport fleets.

By delivering LNG as a reliable fuel source, the project aims to support these sectors in their energy requirements while fostering economic growth and stability.

This is the first small-scale LNG initiative, but marks the country’s seventh LNG facility and serves as a pivotal step forward in the nation’s ambition to establish itself as a key player in the liquefied natural gas industry.
