Wagenborg Towage has redeployed its latest deepsea towage, salvage and anchor handling tug to the Dutch port of Eemshaven after acquiring it in 2017. Wagenborg purchased tugboat Boa Tyr in December last year and renamed it Waterman.
During the last two weeks of December, Waterman was transferred from the Norwegian port of Trondheim to Eemshaven in northern Netherlands. The 33.3 m tug will be deployed for port and sea towage, salvage operations and anchor handling services.
This 429 GT tug has a breadth of 10 m, draught of 5 m and bollard pull of 60 tonnes. At the time of the vessel purchase, Wagenborg Towage said Waterman would fit into the existing fleet of tugboats.
It was redeployed at the deepwater port of Eemshaven after the port’s fairways were deepened in 2017 from 11 m to 14 m to provide greater access for larger ships from the North Sea.
Eemshaven has 5 km of quayside distributed over four basins. It has multimodal access, roro infrastructure, ramps, a jetty and various facilities for transhipping goods and logistics services. The port has annual transhipments of more than 6.5M tonnes.
Eemshaven is a hub for offshore supply and renewables as, according to the port authority, the wind turbines around the port generate up a third of the Netherlands energy production.
