Vard in Norway has confirmed contracts for the design and construction of two commissioning service operation vessels (CSOVs) and the conversion of a platform supply vessel into a service operation vessel (SOV) for Norwind Offshore
The vessels will be built and the PSV converted for the Ålesund-based company, the owners of which have a long history in the offshore and marine industry, including well known members of two offshore shipping families, the Farstads and Volstads.
The deal for the newbuilds also includes options for two more CSOVs. Vard said the contracts for the three firm vessels are together valued at Nkr1.4Bn (US$160M).
The two newbuilds will be of VARD 4 19 design and developed by Vard Design in Ålesund, Norway. The first vessel will be outfitted and delivered from Vard in Norway in Q2 2023, with the hull to be built at Vard Braila in Romania. The second vessel will be built and delivered by Vard Vung Tau in Vietnam, scheduled for delivery in Q3 2024.
The third vessel is a conversion of a Vard-built PSV. The vessel has been in operation in Asia and Australia and will now sail to Vard Brattvaag in Norway for conversion and outfitting. The vessel will be delivered to Norwind Offshore in Q2 2022.
Norwind Offshore chief executive Svein Leon Aure said, “Norwind Offshore is looking forward to taking delivery of these high-quality vessels. We are pleased to continue our long relationship with Vard and together contribute to the development of the maritime cluster in the renewable energy market.”
The 85-m Vard 4 19 has a beam of 19.5 m and will be equipped with a height-adjustable motion-compensated gangway with elevator, a height-adjustable boat landing system, and will be prepared for batteries. The CSOVs will have accommodation for 87 people with an option to increase to 120 people.
