A provider of satellite communications has started collaborating with a specialist in maritime data analytics to bring operational benefits to ship operators, owners and managers
Marlink and Metis have formed a strategic partnership to combine vessel connectivity and data acquisition with analytics powered by artificial intelligence (AI) to deliver insights to ship operators, owners and managers.
These service providers intend to help shipowners accelerate digital transformation and operational efficiency after signing a memorandum of understanding (MoU) to expand their capabilities.
Marlink has become an integration partner for Metis’ vessel performance and operational data analysis, which will be delivered through Marlink’s cyber-secure, global maritime digital infrastructure.
Metis will provide the onboard data acquisition, internet of things (IoT) equipment, and integration services, and the AI-driven analytics platform.
“We can extend access to Metis’ data collection and AI-powered analytics capabilities through global managed services,” said Metis chief executive Panos Theodossopoulos.
“Customers will benefit from greater flexibility, stronger integration, and access to advanced telemetry and analytics capabilities designed to support more efficient, data-driven fleet operations.”
The MoU also creates a pathway for deeper technical integration, with future development focused on bringing Metis’ IoT and AI-powered analytics capabilities into closer alignment with Marlink’s XChange NextGen edge platform.
Marlink chief product officer, Carlos Carbajal, expects ship operators, owners and managers to increase their investment in IoT, data compilation, and analytics to gain operational efficiencies and lower costs and emissions.
“Shipping companies are under increasing pressure to improve efficiency, reduce emissions and make better decisions from the data already available onboard their vessels,” he said.
“Through this partnership with Metis, we are helping customers convert that data into practical operational value,” said Mr Carbajal.
“Together, we can make advanced vessel intelligence easier to adopt, scale and manage across fleets.”
