German shipowner Peter Döhle has reportedly struck again in the dry bulk secondhand market, acquiring a second modern Kamsarmax bulk carrier through a tender-sale process
Equasis now lists the company as the new owner of Akira (81,782 dwt, built 2019), formerly known as Avicl Artemis. Shipbrokers earlier this year reported the vessel changed hands for a price exceeding US$24M.
Riviera previously reported that Peter Döhle had also acquired 2019-built Kamsarmax Albina (ex SDTR Dora). Both Akira and Albina were reportedly purchased through a tender-style process, with offers invited by 18 June.
The tender documentation specified that each vessel was to be delivered charter-free, safely afloat at a safe and accessible berth or anchorage worldwide.
Though traditionally more active in the container ship sector, Peter Döhle currently manages a fleet of around 35 bulk carriers across various sizes – from Handysize to Capesize – according to its website. The company also acquired a pair of mid-aged Capesize vessels last year.
In 2025, the shipowner has additionally been linked to newbuilding contracts in China for a series of 8,400-TEU container ships.
Values trending upwards
Modern Kamsarmax bulk carriers continue to see healthy trading activity in the sale and purchase market, Allied Shipbroking noted in its latest weekly report. Values have also trended upwards in recent weeks compared with the two-vessel sale reported to Peter Döhle earlier this year.
Allied cited the sale of a 2019-built vessel in China for around US$28M, while a similar price was paid per unit for two 2021-built ships. “These sales confirm that values for modern eco Chinese-built tonnage remain well supported by solid chartering returns and limited prompt supply,” the broker said.
Among older units, a 2011-built Kamsarmax reportedly fetched US$15M, “maintaining a strong pricing floor across the mid-age bracket.”
Allied’s data shows that Kamsarmax prices have climbed by 4% to 11% across all age segments over the past three months.
