An Italian tugboat owner has taken delivery of the first of a new series of harbour tugs
Rimorchiatori Napoletani is continuing to modernise its Italian tugboat fleet, with up to four newbuilds on order.
Sanmar Shipyards in Turkey has delivered Portosalvo as the first of a four-vessel order for harbour tugs of Bogacay class to the Italian owner. This was initially built by the Turkish shipbuilder as Bogacay LXXVIII and has been renamed and tailored for Rimorchiatori Napoletani to include technology to reduce emissions and onboard noise.
These newbuild tugs will be built to Robert Allan Ltd’s RAmparts 2400SX MK-II design, which is exclusive to Sanmar, with a bollard pull over the stern of 70 tonnes, for delivery in 2025 and 2026.
Two azimuth Z drives will be powered by twin main diesel engines linked to exhaust aftertreatment systems to remove NOx from emissions and comply with IMO Tier III requirements.
Rimorchiatori Napoletani currently carries out towing services in the ports of Naples, Taranto, Bari and Gaeta, in Italy.
Portosalvo has an overall length of 24 m, a moulded beam of 12 m, a least-moulded depth of around 5 m and navigational draught of 5 m, accommodation for six crew members, and can achieve a free running speed of 12 knots.
The 28th International Tug & Salvage Convention, Exhibition & Awards will be held in Gothenburg, Sweden, in association with Caterpillar, 19-21 May 2026. Use this link for more details of this industry event and the associated social and networking opportunities.
