Solstad Offshore reported “a major oil service company” has chartered construction support vessel (CSV) Normand Samson (ex Far Samson) for a minimum 350 days
Set to commence in Q2 2022, the contract contains options to extend for an additional 150 days.
A highly capable UT 761 CD design, Normand Samson has an overall length of 121 m, beam of 26 m, with cargo deck space of 1,450 m2 and accommodation for 100. The dynamic positioning class 3-capable subsea vessel has two working-class remotely operated vehicles (ROVs), an ROV support crane, with a moonpool, helideck and a NOV 250-tonne active heave-compensation main crane.
One of the most powerful vessels of its type, Normand Samson has a bollard pull of 423 tonnes, and has been used for a wide variety of tasks. The vessel is multifunctional and capable of carrying out heavy ploughing operations for pipes and cables on the seabed, as well as subsea installation work in ultra-deepwater, towing, ROV and other challenging subsea operations. It can cut trenches in the seabed in water up to 1,000 m deep.
Propulsion is supplied by two Bergen B32:40 V12P engines in a diesel-electric configuration that drive two propellers.
Named the Ship of the Year in 2009 at Nor-Shipping, the CSV will be utilised on a field development project in South America.
Marine Traffic reported Normand Samson was anchored at Pachi, Greece, on 29 October.
