23,000-dwt IMO2 oil product and chemical tanker Prospero received the Tanker of the Year award at the Tanker Shipping & Trade gala dinner in Athens on 2 November
This award is a highly coveted and prestigious accolade which received nominations for three very different, but remarkable, tankers.
23,000-dwt small clean tanker Prospero beat off two strong contenders in shuttle tanker Live Knutsen and 50,000-dwt MarineLine tank-coated chemical product tanker Dianella.
It was felt that Donsötank’s Prospero incorporates a range of design features and technologies that will become standard on tankers if owners and operators are to future-proof newbuildings in the low-carbon emissions era.
The FKAB-designed tanker has an LNG/LBG dual-fuel main engine and incorporates a hybrid-electric propulsion system. The vessel is also shoreside electric power ready.
The resulting Energy Efficiency Design Index is 4.44 points in LNG mode, which means the vessel already meets IMO decarbonisation requirements.
The Tanker of the Year award was sponsored by Vortexa and presented during a gala dinner sponsored by Thome Group, Liberian Registry and Ocean Technologies Group.
Donsötank safety manager Daniel Olsson and marine superintendent Alexander Björk collected the Tanker of the Year award on behalf of the company.
Nominations for the 2022 Tanker Shipping & Trade awards will open 1 March 2022. Please send your nominations for all categories to Paul Dowling: paul.dowling@rivieramm.com
