Joint venture Complexio is backed by commercial management group C Transport Maritime SAM (CTM), tanker owner Hafnia, Marfin Management, gas carrier owner BW Epic Kosan and tech firm Simbolo
Described as a “foundational” AI company, Complexio will provide large-scale, adaptable AI models that can be tailored and added to existing systems. CTM wants to use the technology to streamline its data processes, starting internally and then rolling out AI-based offerings to its customers.
Foundational AI’s main focus is to connect to all areas of a company’s infrastructure and provide a centralised hub that serves as the primary point of decision-making.
CTM chief commercial officer, Carlos Pena said the aim of the venture is to drive operational efficiency and chief executive John Michael Radziwill said as big data becomes “its own entity and commodity”, the future belongs to those who can best manage and understand their own data.
“This is our next step as we continue to add services that our members, clients and employees will benefit from for years to come” he said.
The vessel manager operates primarily in the dry cargo ocean segment providing chartering, sale and purchase, operations and technical management of dry bulk vessels, as well as managing successful vessel pools.
The partners described Complexio’s capabilities as the result of three years of integrated research and development within market-leading companies, gaining full access to their historical and real-time company data.
Simbolo founder David Ehrlich was also the founder of Quintessential AI, Complexio’s predecessor company. Quintessential AI rebranded as Complexio earlier this year.
Complexio chief executive Matthew Talbot claimed, "We are the only foundational AI platform that works with whole company data. Through this, we can establish relationships between everything and build a map that charts and understands exactly how entire business activities are carried out. The next step is automating this.”
At least one of the partners, Hafnia, has previously stepped up its use of AI technologies. The product tanker owner is using a digital application to monitor corrosion levels on board, enhance paint maintenance and report on 57 of its ships. It has introduced an inhouse chat-bot to assist with daily tasks such as email management and responding to queries.
Mr Pena concluded, “In 2021, we launched our Revenue Sharing Agreement app to provide our pool members with real-time performance information on their vessels. Our partnership with Complexio is a big step forward in setting ourselves up for a world powered by AI. This collaboration will further empower our employees, equipping them with a powerful tool to aid their decision-making, saving them time by eliminating recurring tasks and improving their efficiency."
