AET updates support for dual-fuel Aframax simulator at Texas A&M Galveston
AET has furthered a partnership with Texas A&M University at Galveston, which delivers a dedicated simulation laboratory that replicates the bridge of a modern dual-fuel Aframax tanker, supporting cadet training at the Texas A&M Maritime Academy.
AET’s commitment to the AET Tanker Simulation Lab was expanded by the signing of a further memorandum of understanding in July 2025.
“This partnership holds special significance for us,” said AET global director, commercial Capt Peter Liew, “AET was founded over 30 years ago in Houston and today, Houston and Galveston remain core operating hubs for our commercial activities and Atlantic fleet management as well as our global ship-to-ship lightering support activities.”
Developed with direct input and funding from AET, the simulator replicates the navigation bridge of a 113,000-dwt LNG dual-fuel Aframax tanker from AET’s fleet, complete with 240° field of view and integrated navigation systems.
The simulator is already in use by cadets enrolled in the Marine Transportation programme, allowing students to practise real-world tanker operations including docking, ship-to-ship transfers and navigation in restricted waters.
Texas A&M Maritime Academy superintendent, chief operating officer of the Galveston Campus, and vice president of Texas A&M, Michael E Fossum stated, “As an integral part of a Tier 1 Land, Sea, and Space Grant academic institution, it is essential we provide world-class training, so our graduates are prepared to be leaders in the industry. AET’s partnership and investment in our programme enable us to prepare the workforce our state and nation urgently need to safely and efficiently transport liquid cargoes.”
