Italian owner Rimorchiatori Mediterranei’s subsidiary Augustea Gran Colombia welcomed two 2019-built harbour tugs to their new base in Colombia on 14 February, after a voyage from Turkey
RR Macondo and RR Santa Marta will improve the owner’s capabilities for manoeuvring and escorting larger ships visiting Colombian ports.
Augustea Gran Colombia operates tugs in the ports of Santa Marta, Drummond and Puerto Nuevo.
On a LinkedIn post, the company welcomed these two tugs to Colombia by testing their fire-fighting systems.
Augustea Gran Colombia purchased these tugs, previously named Anka 2 and Anka 4, from Uzmar Group in Turkey in a deal signed in December 2021.
These 32-m vessels were built by Uzmar to Robert Allan Ltd’s RAstar 3200 design with 81 tonnes of bollard pull.
Previously, they were operated by Uzmar as part of its fleet in Ambarlı port, Istanbul for ship-handling, coastal towing, general purpose and escort duties.
Rimorchiatori Mediterranei is part of the Rimorchiatori Riuniti Group. It operates in 18 major Italian and international ports with a fleet of more than 100 tugs and employs around 600 people.
Rimorchiatori Mediterranei is expanding its international operations through acquisitions and tug purchases. In November 2021, Rimorchiatori Mediterranei announced it was purchasing Keppel Smit Towage and Maju Maritime in a deal thought to be worth more than €160M (US$183M).
